Why caffeine is in FizzyFocus

Why pair it with L-theanine?

Researchers have studied the combination for attention. Two small studies in children and teens with A*HD found improvements in some attention measures, including sustained attention or fewer responses to distractions.

These early studies used different doses and tested the ingredients, rather than FizzyFocus. They measured short-term effects; long-term benefits and safety in children still need study.

Choosing what fits your child

Review the full label with your child’s clinician, including medications and other caffeine sources. Sensitivity varies: caffeine can affect sleep, anxiety and heart rate. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises avoiding caffeine for children. Keep any prescribed treatment guided by your child’s prescriber.

Research & guidance

2020 exploratory pilot · five participants. A placebo-controlled crossover pilot in five boys with A*HD, using single weight-based doses (2.5 mg/kg L-theanine with 2 mg/kg caffeine), provides preliminary findings that require larger studies. Researchers reported improvements in measured sustained attention and overall cognition shortly after a dose. Caffeine alone worsened one measure of impulse control; improvement on that measure with the combination was not statistically significant.

2026 small study · 21 participants. A placebo-controlled crossover study in young people ages 10–19 with A*HD, using the same single weight-based doses, reported reduced responses to distracting stimuli and less slowing of responses as an attention task continued. Other attention measures did not significantly improve. Allocation was not randomized, and every participant already responded to methylphenidate. These findings also remain preliminary.

2023 review · caffeine alone. A review of seven small randomized trials in 104 children aged 5–15 with A*HD, six of them from 1975–1981, found no clear benefit from caffeine on its own (75–309 mg) compared with placebo. Pooling four of the trials, it found no difference in overall symptoms. None of the trials used 50 mg, paired caffeine with L-theanine or tested FizzyFocus.

Organic natural flavors, explained

What are organic natural flavors, and what can they contain?

Natural flavors are ingredients used mainly for taste and aroma. Under the FDA definition, they can come from fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, other plant materials, edible yeast, animal foods or fermentation products. They may be extracts, essential oils or distillates; “natural” does not mean unprocessed or simply powdered fruit.

A flavor blend can also include ingredients that help carry, disperse or protect the flavor. USDA’s technical report describes organic alcohol in liquid flavors and organic gums or starches in some powdered flavors. Those are general examples, not a list of ingredients in FizzyFocus’s blends.

How are organic natural flavors different from natural flavors?

“Natural” describes the source of the flavoring substances; it does not by itself mean organic. A flavor certified in USDA’s “organic” category must contain at least 95% organic ingredients, excluding water and salt, with restrictions on the remainder. That percentage applies to the flavor preparation, not necessarily just its aroma compounds.

USDA rules for flavors used in organic foods prohibit synthetic solvents and carrier systems and artificial preservatives. They also allow qualifying nonsynthetic, nonorganic flavors when organic versions are not commercially available. Organic is not a blanket promise of no processing or no pesticides: the standards permit specific substances.

An organic flavor ingredient does not make the finished FizzyFocus formula USDA-certified organic.

Do natural flavors tell me the exact sources or allergens?

No. The term does not identify every source ingredient, carrier or processing aid, and a flavor name alone does not tell you the full recipe. Exact details need confirmation for the specific flavor blend.

What these numbers mean: These figures cover five selected studies in children and teens with A*HD, representing 221 participants including placebo and comparison groups. Four were randomized; one was not. Seven ingredients were examined: vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, phosphatidylserine, saffron, L-theanine and caffeine. Some were studied together or alongside medication. These are counts of research participation, not a success rate or proof that each ingredient works on its own.

Vitamin D + magnesium · 66 children ages 6–12. An eight-week randomized, placebo-controlled trial in children with A*HD and low vitamin D and magnesium levels, alongside methylphenidate. Children took 50,000 IU of vitamin D a week with 6 mg/kg of magnesium a day. Some parent-rated behavior scores improved; this paper did not report hyperactivity or attention scores, and a second report from the same trial found no difference on them. Zinc · 44 children ages 5–11. A six-week randomized, placebo-controlled trial in children with A*HD added zinc (about 15 mg elemental zinc a day) to methylphenidate. Parent and teacher ratings improved more than with methylphenidate plus placebo. It tested zinc as an add-on to medication, not a replacement, and used a different zinc form from FizzyFocus. Phosphatidylserine · 36 children ages 4–14. A two-month randomized, placebo-controlled trial in children with A*HD used 200 mg/day soy-derived phosphatidylserine, twice the amount in one serving of FizzyFocus. The supplement group improved on symptom scores and short-term memory while the placebo group did not change, but the paper’s summary gives no direct comparison between groups. Saffron · 54 children and teens ages 6–17. A six-week randomized, double-blind pilot compared saffron capsules (20–30 mg a day) with methylphenidate, and ratings changed similarly in both groups.
